VTAlerts is a purpose-built safety application created to enhance the security and comfort of individuals utilizing the VTA bus and light rail system in Santa Clara County, California. The application provides passengers with a convenient, covert means to inform VTA Security of any safety concerns or dubious behaviors. Notably, it enables users to share images, messages, and specific locations of any concerning individuals or activities without attracting attention, as the app discreetly disables camera flash during use.
Upon opening the app, users encounter two primary functions: 'Report a Problem' and 'Call 911'. The 'Report a Problem' feature allows the communication of text or photographic information directly to VTA Security. Users have the option to send reports anonymously and can specify station locations and types of concerns for more efficient handling by security personnel. If there is no cellular service, the report is saved and transmitted once connectivity is re-established, with messages prioritized over pictures to expedite the alert process.
For immediate emergencies, the 'Call 911' button swiftly connects users to the police.
An additional key feature is the integration of BOLO (Be On the Look Out) Alerts, which disseminate cautionary advisories regarding individuals of interest, such as a missing person. Users encountering anyone matching the description provided in a BOLO can quickly contact emergency services with a single button tap and report the sighting to VTA Security through this platform.
The game is designed as a seamless tool to ensure travels through the Santa Clara County transit system are secure and free of worry, bringing peace of mind with instant access to security and emergency services at your fingertips.
